ABOUT THE SHOW

Around the Wey was created by South Shore broadcast & communications major Rob Grover — resident of Weymouth for 15 years, who has 20+ behind the mic as a community FM radio host, DJ, and producer.  The show grew from the belief of Weymouth / surrounding towns having vast information and talent to be shared — we just needed a better way to hear them.

Around the Wey is designed to serve Weymouth, MA and the surrounding South Shore communities, blending local updates and conversation with feel-good rhythmic music across generations. It’s built like the radio you grew up with — informative, comforting, fun, community-anchored, music-driven, and schedule-reliable.

What We Cover

Each episode highlights what matters most around town:

  • Local business spotlights and promotion

  • Town, civic, and family-friendly events

  • Yard and neighborhood happenings (including yard sales)

  • Community stories, announcements, and interviews

  • Local music artist submissions encouraged for show rotation

Music With Purpose

The soundtrack of the show spans old and new, curated from classics and current gems in:

  • R&B • Soul • Disco • Pop • Funk • Dance • Jazz
(National artists + local talent side-by-side when submitted/selected)

A Social-Media Rest, Not a Disconnect

While the audience may submit and connect online, the show intentionally offers a social-media-free listening experience, letting families stay informed without the need to rely on such platforms.  When we reference online or social content, it’s done as guidance, not a requirement.

This isn't to say you won't see the program appear in a local Facebook group or other similar platform...it just means that you won't see an "official" social media page by the show.  We'd rather our local friends use existing online means to supplement physical & verbal promotion.  You should enjoy this program without the need for more social media accounts to follow!

Why We Chose Mixcloud

We stream through Mixcloud because it handles the complex music rights and licensing fees automatically, allowing the show to include legally-cleared, full-length music without worry.  This keeps artists paid, rights respected, and the music flowing the right way — every time.

Built for Community Participation

The show isn’t just hosted in Weymouth — it’s informed by it.  Episodes take shape through encouraged contributions from residents, businesses, civic groups, and local musical artists. Whether it’s a yard sale listing, upcoming event, interview idea, or a song request, the community helps steer the content we share.  Submissions can be credited by name or shared anonymously, and all contributions are reviewed with the same goal in mind:  keeping the show uplifting, useful, and truly connected to the South Shore.  Community tips and music suggestions are accepted through:

How We Keep It Running

The program operates independently through personal funding and volunteer listener donations, accepted securely via the "Donate" portion of this website.  Every donation helps keep the site running, the audio hosted, and the production growing — local support making local sound stronger.

ABOUT YOUR HOST

Program producer & host Rob G. has been involved with hosting & programming ventures for over 20 years.  Starting as a hip-hop/R&B DJ, Rob G. has been involved in community FM radio through the former 91.1fm WSMU/later 89.3fm WUMD out of North Dartmouth, MA (University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth).  In addition, he was the only male entrusted with joining the female-led 91.5fm WZLY station out of Wellesley, MA (Wellesley College).

The on-air role allowed his signature urban music show, "The Wake-Up Call" to be simultaneously broadcast over FM radio & online means, to multiple audiences in differing regions.  The show also had a short stint as a secondary podcast in 2006, well before podcasts were a "thing"!

While at WUMD, Rob became Production Director, providing guidance to newly incoming staff for station-related production, promotion, and recording purposes.  In addition, while at WZLY, Rob was a member of the Special Events committee, helping to bring the station's sound to a larger campus audience.

His DJ mixing yielded opportunities to be a rotating Saturday-night house DJ in Taunton, MA, while having guest sets at New Bedford, MA & Hyannis, MA as an opening act for NY DJ Lazy K.

Rob G. has also hosted events for school fundraisers benefiting the American Cancer Society as well as the Harlem Wizards basketball exhibition.

Music production / editing has remained a constant, as Rob has produced exclusive clean edits and remixes of popular hip-hop and R&B tracks, as heard through his live DJ sets and shows.  Reviving old television production music tracks has been a personal favorite.

Later years consisted of increased focus on podcasting, as he produced and hosted/co-hosted "Bros on Audio", "The Wake-Up Call REMIXED", and "Complex Context".  The shows reached wide audiences throughout the U.S., Germany, Canada, Russia, and beyond.

Rob G. continues to happily & proudly reside in Weymouth, MA with his wife, daughter, and two dogs.  The next chapter of the journey is eagerly shared with his fellow South Shore residents, with hope that the wiser years will lead the opportunity to provide an entertaining radio-style show which encompasses years of past experience and audience-pleasing audible enjoyment.
